About Didim

About Didim

Didim is the southern Aegean's easygoing beach town, where the colossal Temple of Apollo at Didyma rises beside the long golden shallows of Altınkum and the D-Marin marina. From İzmir Adnan Menderes Airport (ADB) it is roughly 135 km, about a 120-minute drive south, and our private transfer brings you door to door to your hotel.

Easygoing and sun-warmed, Didim mixes ancient wonder with cheerful bucket-and-spade holiday spirit. Mornings drift by on the shallow golden beach; afternoons wander among giant temple columns older than Rome; evenings unwind over grilled fish at the marina or a cold drink on the Altınkum front. Unpretentious, family-friendly and genuinely Aegean, it wears its history lightly and its sunshine generously.

Best season
May to October is the season, with July and August hottest, busiest and best for the beach, when the shallow Altınkum water is bath-warm. June and September are the sweet spot: hot seas, long sunny days and thinner crowds, ideal for combining beach time with the temple and ancient cities. Spring and autumn suit walkers and history lovers who prefer mild days and quiet ruins.
Hidden gem · Lake Bafa & the Beşparmak ruins
Half an hour inland, mirror-calm Lake Bafa sits beneath the jagged Beşparmak (Latmos) mountains, dotted with Byzantine monastery islets and prehistoric rock paintings. Fish restaurants line the shore and a boatman will row you out to the ruins, a serene, little-visited world away from the beach crowds.
What Didim is famous for

Six reasons people choose Didim

The standout features that set Didim apart from every other Antalya region.

🏛️
Temple of Apollo at Didyma
One of antiquity's greatest oracle sanctuaries stands in the heart of Didim, its colossal Ionic columns rising over 19 metres above a vast unroofed courtyard. Once linked to Miletus by a sacred way, Didyma rivalled Delphi as a place pilgrims came to consult the god Apollo.
🏖️
Altınkum golden sands
Altınkum means 'golden sand', and its long, gently shelving Blue Flag bay is exactly that: warm, shallow and safe for children, wading out for many metres. A long-time favourite of British holidaymakers, the beachfront is lined with cafés, ice-cream stalls and easygoing bars.
D-Marin Didim marina
One of the Aegean's largest yacht marinas berths hundreds of boats beside a smart promenade of waterfront restaurants, boutiques and gulet moorings. It is the launch point for daily blue-cruise boat trips and the sailing gateway to the Greek islands and Bodrum peninsula.
🌅
Sunset at the temple
As the day cools, the tawny stone of the Apollo temple glows amber and locals gather in the cafés opposite to watch the columns catch the last light. It is the town's signature moment, a quiet ancient grandeur set against a working Aegean resort.
🏺
Miletus & Priene next door
Two of Ionia's great ancient cities lie within a short drive: Miletus, with its huge Hellenistic theatre on the old harbour, and hillside Priene, laid out on a perfect grid beneath Mount Mycale. Together with Didyma they form a classic Ionian archaeology trail.
💦
Watersports & boat days
The sheltered bay is made for holiday water fun, from banana boats, jet skis and parasailing off Altınkum to scuba schools exploring reefs offshore. Daily boat tours cruise to nearby coves and islands with swim stops, lunch on deck and a lazy return at dusk.
What to do

Things to do in Didim

A short-list our drivers and dispatchers recommend after dropping guests at their hotel.

🏛️
Explore the Apollo temple
Walk among the towering columns of Didyma, descend the ramps into the inner sanctuary where the oracle once spoke, and study the half-finished carvings that reveal how ancient masons worked. Allow an hour or two, ideally late afternoon for the light.
🏖️
Laze on Altınkum beach
Spend a slow day on the golden sand, wading into the warm, shallow, kid-safe shallows and renting a sunbed under an umbrella. Café and bar terraces line the promenade behind, so lunch and cold drinks are never more than steps away.
Take a boat trip
Board a daily gulet from D-Marin or Altınkum harbour to cruise the coast, anchoring in quiet bays for swimming and snorkelling with lunch served on deck. Longer sailings reach nearby islets and the wild coves of the Aegean shore.
🏺
Tour Miletus and Priene
Make a half-day of Ionian ruins, standing in the vast theatre of Miletus and climbing terraced Priene beneath Mount Mycale. Both are a short drive from Didim and pair naturally with Didyma for a full ancient-cities day out.
💦
Try the watersports
The sheltered bay is ideal for jet skis, parasailing, banana boats and stand-up paddleboarding, with operators right on Altınkum beach. Scuba schools run reef and wreck dives offshore, and beginners can take a first taster session in the calm water.
🌄
Escape to Lake Bafa
Drive inland to the still waters of Lake Bafa beneath the Beşparmak mountains, lunch on fresh lake fish, and take a small boat to Byzantine ruins on the islets. It is a peaceful, scenic contrast to the coastal resort buzz.

A large modern yacht harbour ringed by waterfront restaurants, cafés and shops, buzzing with sailing crews. It is the place for an evening stroll, a seafood dinner and the departure point for boat trips and blue cruises.
🏺
Ancient Miletus
Once a leading Ionian port city, Miletus preserves a colossal Hellenistic-Roman theatre, baths and a scattered agora on the silted-up Menander plain. A short drive north of Didim and a highlight of any ancient-cities excursion.

Travel tips for Didim transfers

What we tell every guest before they fly in. Save these on your phone before landing.

🚗
Book your transfer in advance
Didim is roughly 135 km and about two hours from İzmir Airport (ADB), so a pre-booked private transfer beats juggling buses via İzmir and Söke. You get a fixed price in EUR, a driver waiting with a name sign, and door-to-door service to your exact hotel.
👶
Free child seats on request
The shallow Altınkum bay is perfect for families, and we make the journey there easy too. Just tell us your children's ages when booking and we fit the right child or booster seats free of charge, so little ones travel safely from arrivals to the beach.
✈️
We track your flight
If your flight is early, late or delayed, there is no need to worry: we monitor arrivals and adjust your pickup time automatically. You pay after the ride, not before, and your English-speaking driver will be there to meet and greet you at the terminal.
🧴
Bring sun and beach kit
Altınkum's open golden sands offer little natural shade, so pack strong sun cream, hats and beach shoes for the warm shallows. Reef-safe sunscreen is kind to the snorkelling coves, and a light cover-up helps on breezy boat days out on the bay.
