For air quality and photos, fly early morning or late afternoon, when conditions are smoothest; the mid-day window (roughly 11am-1pm) brings the punchiest thermals. In winter, snow closes the upper terraces and flying drops to the lower 1,200 m launch when it runs at all, so plan a warm-weather visit if you can.

What to wear and bring

Dress as if it's cooler than the beach, because the air at altitude is noticeably colder than down at the lagoon, even on a hot day. The single non-negotiable is footwear: laced trainers or other closed shoes you can run in. No sandals, flip-flops or slip-ons.

• Closed, secured shoes (laced trainers) for the running take-off and landing.
• Long trousers and a light long-sleeve layer; a thin jacket for the colder air up top.
• Sunglasses (helps with wind and glare) and sunscreen.

Tandem paragliding suits a wide range of people: couples, solo travellers, and families with older children all fly here regularly, since the pilot carries the workload and the launch only asks for a few steps. It is one of the more accessible "big" adventures, which is why nervous first-timers do it. That said, you do need to manage a short run at take-off and landing, so significant mobility limits, back issues or the medical conditions above can rule it out.
