Ephesus Ancient City

Ephesus (Efes) is the best-preserved classical city on the Mediterranean and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, inscribed in 2015. Spread across a hillside beside the town of Selçuk in İzmir Province, it was one of the great cities of the Roman world — home to the re-erected marble Library of Celsus, a Great Theatre seating tens of thousands, and colonnaded streets you can still walk end to end. It is served by İzmir Adnan Menderes Airport (ADB), about 60 km and roughly 65 minutes away by road, so how to get to Ephesus is simple: a private Ephesus transfer takes you door-to-door. A one-way SooTransfer from ADB to Ephesus/Selçuk starts at €63 in an Eco Van for up to six passengers, with a fixed price in euros quoted up front and no meter.

Horaires
Daily from 08:00. Summer (April–October) roughly 08:00 – 19:00 (last entry ~1 hour before closing); winter (November–March) roughly 08:00 – 17:00/17:30. The Terrace Houses close a little earlier than the main site, so leave them time.
Entrée
Main site entry is high for Turkey — budget around €40 per adult (check the current gate rate before you go); this ticket now also covers the on-site Ephesus Experience Museum. The Terrace Houses / "Roman villas" need a separate extra ticket (around €15). The Museum Pass Turkey covers main Ephesus entry but usually not the Terrace Houses. Young children typically enter free with ID, and students and seniors may get concessions.

Points forts de Ephesus Ancient City

🏛
Library of Celsus
The 2nd-century AD façade, its two-storey marble front painstakingly re-erected by anastylosis, is the iconic image of Ephesus.
🎭
The Great Theatre
One of the largest theatres of the ancient world, seating tens of thousands, where St Paul is said to have preached to the Ephesians.
🖼
Terrace Houses
A separate extra ticket buys you under-canopy Roman villas with astonishingly intact mosaics and painted frescoes — well worth it.
🏺
Curetes Street
The grand marble avenue linking the Library and Hercules Gate, lined by the Temple of Hadrian, fountains and shopfronts.
House of the Virgin Mary
Up Bülbül (Nightingale) Mountain near Selçuk, a Catholic pilgrimage chapel believed to be Mary's final home.
🏆
Temple of Artemis
One of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World — a single reconstructed column now stands on the field, a short drive into Selçuk.

Astuces pour Ephesus Ancient City

👟
Wear real shoes
It's a large open site over 2–3 hours on uneven, polished marble — trainers not sandals, and use both the upper and lower gate to walk downhill.
🧢
Sun and water
There is almost no shade. Bring a hat, sun cream and water; the busiest, hottest window is late morning when the cruise groups arrive.
👶
Travelling with kids
Ask for free child or booster seats when you book — our Eco Van seats six with luggage, and larger families fit a Vito or V-Class.
Back to the ship on time
From Kuşadası port Ephesus is only ~20 km, about 30 minutes; we track your all-aboard time and build in a return buffer so you never miss the ship.

FAQ

Ephesus Ancient City transfert · FAQ

How much is a transfer from İzmir Airport to Ephesus?

A private one-way İzmir Airport to Ephesus transfer starts at €63 in an Eco Van for up to six passengers. It's about 60 km and roughly 65 minutes by road, with a fixed euro price quoted up front and free meet-and-greet at arrivals.

How do I get to Ephesus?

The easiest way is a private Ephesus transfer from İzmir Adnan Menderes Airport (ADB) straight to the Selçuk gate — door-to-door, about 65 minutes. Your English-speaking driver waits with a name sign, tracks your flight if you land late, and you pay after the ride.

Can I do Ephesus from Kuşadası port?

Yes — Ephesus is the classic Kuşadası shore excursion, only about 20 km and 30 minutes from the cruise port. We meet you at the pier, run a private door-to-door Ephesus day trip, and get you back well before all-aboard.

How long do I need at Ephesus?

Allow 2–3 hours to walk the full site from the upper to the lower gate. Add another 30–45 minutes if you buy the extra Terrace Houses ticket, and more if you continue to the House of the Virgin Mary or the Temple of Artemis.

What is there to see beyond the main ruins?

Inside the site: the Library of Celsus, Great Theatre, Curetes Street, Temple of Hadrian, Marble Street, the Odeon and Hercules Gate. Nearby in Selçuk: the House of the Virgin Mary, the Temple of Artemis, the Basilica of St John and the Ephesus Archaeological Museum.
