About Çıralı

About Çıralı

Çıralı is a protected eco-village beside the Olympos archaeological site — no high-rise allowed, just family-run pensions, garden bungalows and orange-grove courtyards. Sea-turtles nest here May-October.

Eco-conscious travellers, families with older children, hiking couples and Lycian Way thru-walkers. Quiet, lo-fi, no nightclubs — sunset on the beach is the social event.

Best season
April-June for hiking with Chimera flames visible against the night sky. September-October when the turtles hatch. Avoid mid-July to mid-August — Turkish school holidays fill every pension.
Hidden gem · Chimera at midnight
Most tour buses do Chimera at 18:00. Drive up at 23:00 — the flames are visible from 2 km away against pitch-black sky and you'll likely have the site to yourself for €5 entry.
What Çıralı is famous for

Six reasons people choose Çıralı

The standout features that set Çıralı apart from every other Antalya region.

🔥
Chimera eternal flames
Natural gas vents on the mountainside that have burned non-stop for 2,500 years — the original mythological home of the fire-breathing Chimera.
🐢
Caretta turtle nesting
One of the Mediterranean's most strictly protected loggerhead nesting beaches — lights-off rule from sunset to sunrise May-October.
🏛
Olympos ancient city
A Lycian port-city tucked into a riverside valley — pomegranate trees grow between the ruined walls.
🌲
No high-rise rule
Building height capped at 2 storeys, no concrete blocks — only family-run pensions, garden bungalows and tree-house lodges.
🍊
Working orange groves
Half the pensions are surrounded by active citrus orchards — breakfast comes with hand-pressed local juice.
🥾
Lycian Way trailhead
The 540 km Lycian Way coastal path passes straight through Çıralı — popular spring and autumn hikers' stop.

🔥
Hike to the Chimera flames
A 30-min uphill walk from the valley road — bring a torch for the descent. Children love it; adults need water.
🏛
Explore Olympos ruins
Walk the riverside path through the ancient Lycian city — pomegranate trees, Roman tombs, sarcophagi half-submerged in spring run-off.
🥾
Walk a Lycian Way day-stage
The Çıralı-to-Adrasan stage is the most photographed leg — 6 hours, mostly coastal cliffs, two swim stops.
🐢
Volunteer turtle patrol (Jun-Aug)
Local NGOs run dawn beach walks to flag overnight nests — visitors welcome, kids especially encouraged.
🚣
Sea-kayak around Olympos cove
Half-day rental from the beach — paddle to hidden coves and the Lycian sunken ruins at Andriake.
🍴
Pension home-dinner
Most family pensions serve garden-grown vegetable dinners on shared tables — book a day ahead.

Travel tips for Çıralı transfers

What we tell every guest before they fly in. Save these on your phone before landing.

🌒
Lights-out after dark
Driver uses interior amber lamps only on the final 2 km — turtle protection rule is strictly enforced May-Oct.
💶
Bring cash for pensions
Many family pensions don't take cards — €100 in small notes covers a 3-night stay including dinners.
🚐
Combine with Adrasan
Çıralı + Adrasan is a natural 4-day combo — we can do the inter-village transfer for €40 instead of two airport pickups.

FAQ

Çıralı transfer · frequently asked

Quick answers about transfers, distance and what to expect on arrival.

How long is the transfer from Antalya Airport to Çıralı?

About 75-85 minutes, 88 km via the D-400 coastal road and the Olympos turn-off — the last 7 km is a winding descent into the protected valley.

Is Çıralı the same as Olympos?

Same valley, different villages. Olympos has the ruins and a backpacker scene 2 km south; Çıralı has the family pensions and the protected beach. Most pensions are 5-min drive between them.

Can we drive to Çıralı in our own rental car?

You can, but the road descent is winding — and parking inside the village is limited. Our chauffeur drops at the pension door and you skip the parking problem.

Are turtle-nesting rules strictly enforced?

Yes. No lights on the beach after sunset May-Oct, no umbrellas planted in the sand near nests, no walking on flagged areas. Children especially should be briefed.

What's the night-time scene like?

There isn't one — that's the point. Pension dinners, stars from the terrace, and a single bar at the south end of the beach. Closest nightclub is 90 min away in central Kemer.
